Lizoanca at Eleven — A Literary Hub

Translations, reviews, video testimonies, exhibitions, international events, and academic reception dedicated to Doina Ruști’s novel Lizoanca at Eleven, together with an exhibition organized at the National Museum of Romanian Literature in Bucharest on the occasion of the publication of a critical edition of the novel. The volume was the first in the author series dedicated to Doina Ruști by Litera Publishing House. The Museum of Literature organized a hub dedicated to the novel, bringing together objects from the book, manuscript pages, editions and translations of the novel, objects connected to its fictional world, films, photographs, as well as an impressive number of responses from public figures moved by Lizoanca at Eleven. For thirty days, the hub hosted workshops, interactive events, film screenings, and discussions generated by Doina Ruști’s novel Lizoanca at Eleven. The novel Lizoanca at 11 has long moved beyond the space of a simple publication. Over time, a true cultural ecosystem has formed around it: translations, international reviews, debates, interviews, video testimonies, an audiobook, and exhibitions.

Awards and international editions

The novel Lizoanca at 11 (Trei Publishing House, 2009) received the Ion Creangă Prize of the Romanian Academy.

The book has been republished in several editions and included in the “Doina Ruști Author Series” (Litera, 2023). This critical edition generated new interpretations and cultural projects.

The novel has been translated into German, Spanish, Italian, Hungarian, Serbian, and Macedonian.

Lizoanca steps out of the book — exhibition at the National Museum of Romanian Literature

The character Lizoanca stepped out of the pages of the novel and became the core of a participatory literary installation organized at the National Museum of Romanian Literature.

The project brought together photography, film, objects, audiobook recordings, and public interventions, transforming the world of the novel into a collective experience. Visitors were invited to continue the story, leave messages to the character, and participate in the life of a fiction turned into real space.

The novel has been presented at numerous international literary events: Leipzig, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Barcelona, Belgrade, and Budapest. A special moment was the event organized in Berlin at the invitation of a German senator.
