A conversation with Radu Dănilă is always a pleasure. His mind is full of words and of the complex ways in which they are formed and transformed. Since I am equally fascinated by their history, we ended up talking for almost two hours about language and literature.
From this long conversation came a series of short episodes that will appear in the new season of the television program “Speak Correctly!”, broadcast on TVR1 starting March 16.
The show premieres at 7:55 a.m., while the episodes featuring me will air every Tuesday, with several reruns throughout the day.
In these brief encounters we talk about words with a certain charm – some of them almost forgotten today – such as zavaidoc, levantine, chermeză, or țilindru, but also about literature, inspiration, and the way real life becomes story.
“Whatever happens to me acquires fabulous proportions in my mind, and later I throw it into literature.”
“Speak Correctly!” is one of the longest-running Romanian television programs dedicated to language and is built around a simple invitation:
“Let us dedicate at least five minutes to the Romanian language!”
