Romanian writer Doina Ruști took part in the London Book Fair (5–7 April 2022), where the English-language edition of her novel The Book of Perilous Dishes was officially launched. The book was published by Neem Tree Press and translated from Romanian by James Ch. Brown, with the support of the Translation and Publication Support Programme (TPS) of the Romanian Cultural Institute.
Throughout the fair, Doina Ruști participated in book signings, interviews, and meetings with readers, both at the fair itself and at partner cultural venues. A key moment of her London presence was the public event hosted by the Romanian Cultural Institute in London on 6 April, attended by writer Roxana Dumitrache, editor Archna Sharma, and translator Daniela Riain.
At the London Book Fair, The Book of Perilous Dishes was presented as a work of historical fantasy, set in Bucharest in 1798 and centered on a magical cookbook capable of triggering unexpected effects—from dangerous sincerity and oblivion to prophetic visions and uncontrollable laughter. The novel belongs to Doina Ruști’s Phanariot Trilogy, alongside The Phanariot Manuscript and Homeric.
The novel has enjoyed wide international circulation, having previously been translated into Spanish, German, and Chinese, with the English edition further strengthening its presence on the global literary market.
Doina Ruști’s participation in the London Book Fair was complemented by a public reading in English by Rosie Goldsmith and a television interview, both contributing to the international visibility of the book.
