Doina Ruști walking through Bucharest, retracing the paths of her characters from The Checkered Shirt (Polirom, 2010), together with the translators invited by the Romanian Cultural Institute:
Anja Arsić, Elena Borrás, Timea Daróczi, Irina Djuran, Piotr Fiederowicz, Alexandru Gorda, Clara Mitola, Jelena Popadić, Faustine Vega — joined by Florin Bican.
Their route followed a symbolic map of the novel: from Lazăr High School through Cișmigiu Park, toward the University, then to Saint Silvestru Church and Andronache — between the living city and the literary Bucharest.
Participants:
Top row: Jelena Popadić (Serbia), Anja Arsić (Serbia), Clara Mitola (Italy), Irina Djuran (Serbia), Kerstin Ahlers (Germany), Alexandru Gorda (Ukraine), Piotr Fiederowicz (Poland)
Bottom row: Faustine Vega (France), Doina Ruști, Elena Borrás García (Spain), Florin Bican
📸 The photos capture a literary spring day — a walk through the fictional Bucharest of The Checkered Shirt, a book about the city, memory, and the unseen stories behind every street.
